Age of Sigmar Ireland (AoSIreland) is a volunteer organization that promotes the game Warhammer: Age of Sigmar (AoS) with the aim of fielding a group of players to represent the Republic of Ireland at AoS in the Home Nations Event (6N), the World Team Championships (Worlds), and other similar events.
Anyone can join AoSIreland and support the team and the effort of promoting the game and community. However not everyone is eligible to represent AoSIreland as a player at Worlds or 6N. To represent AoSIreland as a player, a player must meet at least one of the following conditions:
They, or a parent/grandparent, must have been born in Republic of Ireland.
They must have resided in Republic of Ireland for a continuous period of at least two years.
They are chosen at the discretion of the captain as a foreign mercenary.
Some events like AoS Worlds may impose further restrictions on the team composition, which are in addition to those already stated.
AOSIreland is organized by a committee consisting of:
Captain
Two Council Members
The committee members will be responsible for ensuring the continued success and existence of the organization as well as facilitating recruiting and fielding a team of players.
Captain
The captain is the leader of the playing team for the upcoming events. This is the only committee position that is guaranteed a playing spot at the year’s events, should they want it. The captain is responsible for ensuring that all of the business required in selecting and fielding a team is concluded in a timely and efficient manner. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Selecting 8 playing members, and optionally 2 support staff (coaches)
Making sure the playing team is well practiced and prepared
Arranging travel and accommodations
Arranging team jerseys, dice, and other swag
Liaising with other Team Captains and event staff
Fulfilling any additional requirements set by a particular event
Council Member
The two council members act as support for the captain, helping to discuss and vote internally on decisions. They share the responsibilities of the captain and can appoint positions or delegate responsibility in the same manner as the captain.
The three committee members form a triumvirate where each has equal standing, with the captain as the figurehead to set the agenda.
Appointed or Defacto Positions
There are some additional leadership positions that are important to the playing team’s function but are not part of the committee. These positions can be appointed by the committee or filled by volunteers. All of these positions are by their nature optional, but are listed here to guide the delegation of responsibilities.
Vice Captain
Assists the Captain in all roles, and where necessary will step in, in the event the Captain is not available. Must be a playing member of the team. Any committee member (besides the captain) may also be a Vice Captain.
Coach / Assistant Coach
Assists the Captain in formulating a strategy for pairings and ensuring players are well prepared for upcoming events. Any committee member, may also be a Coach or Assistant Coach.
Ambassador
The Ambassador is in charge of recruitment. They are responsible for building interest in the community and scouting for new talent. They are the ambassador of AoSIreland to local gaming clubs across the country.
Treasurer
The Treasurer is in charge of all of the team finances. If there is money to be collected, they collect it. Nothing gets paid for without their sign-off. If the team generates income, the financial officer is responsible for accounting for and paying any relevant taxes on that income.
Media Manager
The Media Manager is in charge of everything to do with the AoSIreland brand. This includes the production of marketing materials and social media as well as physical goods like team jerseys, dice, and other swag.
Other Roles
Additional roles can be defined by the Committee as needs arise. If a role becomes consistently required for the team, it should be appended to the charter.
An Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held every year in the month following AoS Worlds. The purpose of this event is to elect new committee members, ratify any changes to the charter, as well as settle any additional business.
All committee positions are elected every year by a ranked choice vote at the AGM. Individuals wishing to submit a bid for a given position should make their intentions known before the start of the AGM to the outgoing committee.
All committee members must be active in the community for at least the previous 1 year and must be eligible to vote in the AGM.
Voting Eligibility
To be eligible to vote in the AGM, a person must have played at least 1 local event in the previous calendar year or be considered to be an active member of the community by popular consensus.
The selection of the playing members of the team for an upcoming event is the sole purview of the Captain. He has the liberty to use any metrics or criteria he wishes but must be able to present these metrics and criteria upon request by any member of the community.
The Captain is also encouraged to select a Vice Captain in case he is not able to perform his duties at the event as well as a Coach and Assistant Coach
Playing teams should be finalized at least 3 months before the event start date.
There will be times where the system and rules outlined cease to function, function in a way that is counterproductive, or are no longer fit for purpose. Hopefully these situations are rare and infrequent, but here we list out a few unusual circumstances and how to proceed with them.
No Confidence
Any member of the community that would be eligible to vote in a yearly election may call for a vote of no confidence in any of the committee members. If another member “seconds” the call then a GM of all eligible voting members must be convened and the matter voted upon. If the committee member loses the vote, a new election is scheduled to fill the vacant seat.
Amending the Charter
Any member of the community that would be eligible to vote in a yearly election may present an amendment to the charter at the AGM, where it can be ratified by a majority vote. Furthermore any member can petition the committee to convene an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) of all eligible voting members to vote on an amendment immediately. The Organizing committee must be unanimous in their decision to convene an EGM.
